With an MFA in ceramics from the Tyler School of Art and degrees in fashion illustration and textile design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Malene’s work is deeply rooted in her African Caribbean heritage. Her art, focused on mark-making as visual identity, has been exhibited nationwide at notable galleries and museums.
In 2022-23, Malene received a Fulbright Award to Jamaica, where she served as the visiting artist at Edna Manley College. Her work has been featured in publications like The New York Times and Architectural Digest.
In 2024, Malene released her first book, Crafted Kinship: Inside the Creative Practice of Contemporary Black Caribbean Makers.
She also founded the Black Artists + Designers Guild, supporting independent Black makers globally. Malene resides in Brooklyn, NY.
